Misfortune + Prayer = Blessing!

Hannah was an extraordinary woman in the Bible. She was the wife of Ephraim, who had another wife called Peninnah. Peninnah had many children but Hannah had none, and because of that, Peninnah always used that to provoke Hannah every year. So Hannah went to the temple one day and prayed to God earnestly for a child:

11 Then she made a vow and said, β€œO LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

We all know that God remembered her (v19) and indeed Hannah bore a son in the end named Samuel. πŸ™‚

Here in this case, it was a misfortune for years and it must have been really hard for Hannah to go through year by year (or even day by day) without a son and being laughed at! Yet look at the outcome of the whole story…she bore a son, a prophet that rose to be such great man of God!

Hannah is different from other woman and she has been much wiser. Look at Sarah in Genesis. When God told them that they are going to have a child, Sarah laughed at God (Gen 18:13) and when things doesn’t appear the way God seems to have told them, she took things into her hand and asked the maidservant, Hagar, to lie with her husband! What happen in the end? Sarah went through a period being despised by Hagar (Gen 16:4) and Abraham has to go through the agony of sending a son with him for 13 years old (Gen 21).

How did Hannah react then? She simply prayed and submitted her request to God. It was a misfortune that she didnt have a son, but she prayed to God for it, and the outcome was such a blessing!:D

I think a lot of times in life we would definitely encounter things that go so so wrong and it is just very hard for us to grasp and see goodness out of it. It has been the case for Hannah year after year, day after day. Yet, she chose to pray and surrender to God, and not take things into her own hand. God honoured her and we all see what a blessing that God has allowed to flow from her!:) πŸ™‚

I always like to share about this example of Jesus being crucified. It was so clear that Satan was behind it all from the beginning of the whole plan to crucify Jesus on the cross. How to see goodness of the whole thing when Jesus was being taken away, to being interrogated, trail by Pilate, whipped by the roman soldiers and being taken to the calvary? Yet in the end God turned such a situation to a glorious victory and the greatest one ever – the resurrection of Christ and that all sins of ours have been taken away! PRAISE GOD! πŸ˜€

Really.. however bad things maybe for us in our daily lives, we have 100% victory in all things! Let us all strive to be like Hannah..we can all pour out our grievances to God, pray and just really waiting for God to do something for us, to ‘fight’ for us! Whatever darkness it maybe right now for you, God is more than able to turn it around and just let goodness come out of it all! πŸ™‚
