I was dwelling on the topic of healing for my QT today. This was not the intended verse that i wanted to mediate upon, but i guess God brought me to another revelation about Him and His healing. 🙂
5When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6“Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering.”
7Jesus said to him, “I will go and heal him.”
From the passage above, i learnt a few things:
One, “Jesus said to him, “I will go and heal him.” Instead of telling the centurion (a captain of one hundred men) or simply just heal the servant immediately by perhaps saying, “Your servant is healed” or something like that, Jesus said he will go and then heal the servant. He actually intend to go.
SO.. i thought, “mmm..means before a healing takes place, Jesus’s presence must be there..he must somehow “touch” the person who needs healing or whatever.”
BUT.. that’s not true. because if you continue to read the passage…
8The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, “I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. 11I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! It will be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that very hour.
HENCE… Jesus DEFINITELY can heal anybody, anywhere, anytime be it He is around or not. After seeing the solid faith of the centurion, He allowed healing to take place in the servant’s body immediately.
QUESTION… why did not the centurion just stay at home and pray or something? I believe this is a story to tell us that the centurion simply take Jesus’s word for truth. He demostrated his faith after Jesus said “I will… heal him.”
Sometimes i always wonder why is it that we always pray for healing to take place on conditions on ourselves like flu, fever etc which are really so mild as compared to men being paralyze and even dead men in the bible, and they don’t take place.I also thought, “I thought even faith as small as mustard seed can throw mountains into sea? Is it i don’t even have faith at all???”
19Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
20He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
😀 look at what i found…(actually i’m not sure if my interpretation is correct or not. if wrong… pls edify me! i don’t want to wu dao people also..!)
18Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? 19It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air perched in its branches.”
Jesus shared here that a mustard seed is something that is to be planted and grown. And when the disciples asked him why they couldn’t drive out the demon from the boy, He did say that the disciples had faith. BUT WHY HAVE FAITH YET COULD NOT DO IT SINCE FAITH AS SMALL AS A MUSTARD CAN THROW A MOUNTAIN HERE AND THERE?
I supposed Jesus meant that the faith like a mustard seed is to be grown and as it grows, it will be able to do much work. =)
Let’s all start with faith as small as a mustard and grow it! Soon we can play Captain’s Mountain’s Ball! 😀 😀 😀
