In Good Times and Bad

This book is given by the Wans as my 21st birthday present. I think it is a good book – not to heavy or light in terms of materials inside. I use it as my daily QT instead of the 365 bible. Find that the latter one is quite ermm.. hard for me to catch up or set time aside for. Although that will make one covers the bible once in a year, i find that (for me lah) it is not very productive. End up i will just glance through the Old Testament and read only Psalms, Proverbs and the New Testament.

Furthermore, now that i am doing the BSP, i think i can rely on that to cover the Bible intensively. 3 years to complete the whole Bible… and i am 1/3 way through! 🙂

Anyway, just want to share today’s devotion!

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness–trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.” Psalm 91:!4-15

The author of the book says that, many people never get to experience God’s mighty delivering power. These people do not walk with Him day by day, but only called on Him when danger strikes. He says that God responds to faith, and not needs.

Faith towards God increases when one gets to know Him more. Just like how well we know a door knob works. We know that when we turn it, the door will definitely open. That is faith in the door knob you know! So walking daily with God, spending time in His word, talking to Him about every other thing and listening to what He has to say, and going through experiences involving Him gives us chances to know Him more and more.

I think it is not that God do not deliver people in the end out of their situations. But rather, if we know God well, when things happen, we will not be shaken and start to anxiously pray and question God when things do not happen. Rather, we will have the peace that we can get from Him when we know that things are in His hands and control.

I have a problem – that is talking to Him daily. Not sure if my thoughts are counted, but sometimes i find it difficult to talk to him (verbally esp) about matters i thought i should just share it out to Him unless out of desperate desperation.

I wonder if that has to do with my r/s with my father on earth. I do not talk to him about many things, like my studies, my health, my day etc. I hope i won’t continue this way towards Daddy in heaven. I must make an effort to talk to Him – not that He is somebody that i want to avoid (anyway cant avoid Him one. He is all around. :P) … He knows all things, just that he delights in the fellowship between us and Him.

So… yup let’s all talk to Daddy ok! 🙂

  1. hey u’re not the only one who has problem verbalising to God…for me I dunno whether it’s out of laziness or what…but I have the tendency to just want to talk to Him in my thoughts…but i always find that’s it’s better when I talk out loud…will talk longer and can feel His responses better.

  2. ya. i think talking out loud should be the way eh. if thots are the recommended ways, then i guess in the bible they would have wrote “Moses thought…” or “Joseph thought…” ha. 😛

  3. Glad to hear that the devotional book comes in handy for you. This book inspires me each time I read. This is my 2nd year into going through this devotional guide and I still receive revelations from DAD.
Well, you may try talking to DAD during your shower… haha…

  4. Yeap thanks so much for the book eh! if not i’m going to drag myself thru another year with the 365 daily bible. 😛 thanks for sharing a book that blesses you a lot!

(PS: i always sing worship songs during shower one. :P)

  5. Well, my advise for you is if possible do not give up on the 1yr bible. Faith comes by hearing; hearing the word of GOD. I realised how much I have grown in reading the 1yr bible for all these years. I started reading since 1999. Now I’m into my 9th year of walking through the 1yr bible. Each time, new revelation will just spring up. At different occasions in life, the word brings forth life into my situation as I draw strength and encouragement from the characters in the bible how they were standfast in their faith.
I used to find reading might be quite a drag especially after a busy day. But I realized that I benefitted alot through my readings all these years.
DAD’s word is living. HIS word will speak to us on different occasions. Walking through the whole bible enable me to claim that HE is the same today, yesterday and forevermore.

  6. yeah the book itself is good! haha. just that i’m the one that is not ready to appreciate the wonders of 1yr bible. 😛 last year was only my 2nd year using it..still didn’t manage to be disciplined to cover the bible properly. I guess i shall not give up and will push for it sometime! Must do away with the time-consuming mentality first!

and thank you for your SDHC sharing! i will SDHC forward in walking with God! 🙂
